Biography

Tom started his musical studies at the ‘Koninklijke Harmonie Sint-Cecilia’ in Jabbeke with Erik Jonghmans and he continues these studies at the ‘Stedelijke Muziekacademie’ in Bruges. There he takes clarinet classes with Raymond Decock and Filip Demeyere. In 2001, he decides to continue his studies at the ‘Lemmensinstituut’ in Leuven. There, he studies ‘clarinet’ with Eddy Vanoosthuyse and earns prizes in solfège and written harmony. In 2006, Tom graduates magna cum laude at the ‘Lemmensinstituut’.

Tom works as a teacher of musical education at the ‘VTI Brugge’. In his spare time, he is chairman of the PLAY Events. This non-profit organization initiates and organizes different projects, such as PLAY4, Mini PLAY4 and Clarinets on Stage.

From 2003 until 2005, Tom successfully completes the training ‘conducting’ at the ‘Academie de Kunstbrug’ in Gentbrugge. He takes the masterclass with, amongst others, Jacob de Haan and Dirk Brossé. As a conductor, he is a regular guest at the preparations of a concert or partial clarinet rehearsals.

At this moment, he takes the composition classes at the ‘Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen’ with Wim Henderickx and Luc Van Hove, and harmony and counterpoint classes with Alain Craens.
